Area 4: Mozambican LNG Reaches Singapore

According to maritime tracking data from Kpler, the cargo was shipped from the Coral Sul FLNG project, located offshore Mozambique, and was delivered on April 19. This operation is part of a series of spot purchases carried out by Singapore’s state-owned gas procurement entity, GasCo, aimed at offsetting supply cuts from other partners.

In addition to the shipment from Mozambique, Singapore also received two additional cargoes from Australia, further strengthening its reserves amid a context of high market volatility. The Asian nation relies on natural gas for approximately 95% of its electricity generation, making it particularly vulnerable to supply disruptions.

An official source from GasCo indicated that the immediate priority is to secure additional volumes on the spot market, while negotiations are underway with reliable suppliers for the conclusion of long-term contracts. Nevertheless, the company maintains its intention to enter the market during 2026 with a view to securing stable supply agreements from 2028 onward.

The current instability largely stems from constraints in the Strait of Hormuz—through which around 20% of the world’s LNG transits—as well as operational disruptions at liquefaction facilities in Qatar. These factors have driven gas prices in Asia to levels not seen in the past three years, heightening the risk of supply shortages.
