Mozambique: HCB with capacity and reserves to supply electricity to Malawi

At 2,075 megawatts per hour, the Cahora Bassa hydroelectric plant in Tete is assumed to have sufficient capacity and reserves of electrical energy to supply the neighbouring Republic of Malawi.

But for the purpose, it will be necessary to create conditions for the transmission of electricity from one of HCB’s substations in Songo town, or Matambo, district of Marara.

According to the administrator of the Hydrology and Infrastructure Systems Department at the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Plant, its energy reserves also allow it to satisfy other similar projects.

Nilton Trindade told Radio Moçambique that negotiations to supply HCB energy to the Republic of Malawi are at an advanced stage.

This year, Cahora Bassa hydroelectric expects to produce more than 15,700 gigawatts of electricity.
