TotalEnergies to Launch Sea Cucumber Farming Pilot in Palma, Cabo Delgado

TotalEnergies, through its subsidiary TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 (TEPMA1), has announced plans to develop a pilot sea cucumber production project in Palma as part of a broader programme designed to restore livelihoods and improve the economic conditions of coastal communities affected by the rollout of the Mozambique LNG development.

The initiative envisages the creation of two experimental production areas, the precise locations of which will be determined during programme implementation. The project seeks to transform the sustainable exploitation of this marine resource into a viable income-generating activity for local households. According to a call for expressions of interest issued by the concessionaire, the project forms part of the company’s Livelihood Restoration Strategy and is expected to benefit households in the communities of Quitunda, Maganja (Mfunzi), and Mondlane, within the Palma district.
