MIREME Hosts Conference to Attract Investment in Mining and Energy

According to an official statement, the initiative, called the Conference on Value Addition Based on Available Minerals and Energy Resources (CAVAME-d), will take place from October 19 to 24 in the city of Nacala, Nampula Province.
The event was announced on Thursday (30) in Maputo by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estêvão Pale, and is expected to bring together government representatives, investors, operators, universities, research centers, financial institutions, and cooperation partners.
According to the minister, the conference aims to transform the country’s available mining and energy potential into development projects, with greater participation by domestic industry and local processing of resources. “We will present project packages based on minerals available for local processing, driving industrialization, innovation, employment, and prosperity,” said Estêvão Pale.
During the meeting, the government is expected to present investment projects related to the utilization of the country’s mineral resources, with the aim of attracting companies interested in processing them prior to export. The agenda also includes opportunities for the use of natural gas in the domestic market, with a focus on the establishment of petrochemical industries, the production of fertilizers, fuels, and energy, and the development of other production chains.
Projects will also be presented in the areas of logistics, infrastructure, and specialized aviation services designed to support the activities of the hydrocarbons sector. CAVAME-d will be part of the Nacala Gem Fair (FAGENA), during which the country’s first international gem auction is scheduled to take place.
According to MIREME, the auction is expected to bring together producers, buyers, and investors, allowing gemstones produced in Mozambique to be valued within the country before they are exported. The conference will take place at a time when the government is seeking to increase the local processing of natural resources and reduce dependence on the export of unprocessed raw materials.
The event is also taking place against the backdrop of this year’s approval of a new legal framework for the sector, which is currently in the regulatory phase. According to the Ministry, the new framework is expected to create better conditions for investment, competitiveness, transparency, and sustainable development.
