Globeleq Has Implemented Projects Worth More Than $3.1 M in African Countries, Including Mozambique

lobeleq, an independent energy producer in Africa, announced that in 2023 it achieved positive results, detailing that in the seven countries where it operates, including Mozambique, it produced a total of more than 7,000 GWh of electricity, reaching 8.8 million consumers and creating more than 181,000 new jobs, in an investment valued at more than 3.1 million dollars invested in socio-economic projects that reached 129,700 people.

In its most recent sustainability report, released on Tuesday 18 June by the Club of Mozambique, the entity explained that it currently owns and operates 17 power plants in Africa, and the group is also building a major gas plant for energy production, a project supported by the International Finance Corporation, which will start operating in the coming months in Temane, Inhambane province, in the south of the country.

“In Kenya, construction of Globeleq’s first geothermal project in Menengai is underway after it reached financial close at the end of 2023. Also in the same year, the company acquired another 41 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Mocuba, Mozambique, and the 25 MW Winnergy solar photovoltaic plant in Egypt,” it emphasised.

The organisation stressed that it had also completed the 253 MW phase four expansion of its Azito power plant, which is now the largest power plant in Ivory Coast, and started operations at the 19 MW Cuamba plant, the first combined solar photovoltaic and battery storage plant.

Globeleq, which is 70 per cent owned by British International Investment and 30 per cent by Norfund, is the leading developer, owner and operator of electricity generation in Africa. It has been building a diversified portfolio of independent power stations since 2002.
