ExxonMobil Awards Upstream EPCI and Logistics Contracts for Rovuma LNG
According to a statement received by Diário Económico, the selection of the consortium will allow detailed planning and definition of upstream development to proceed. The upstream scope encompasses 18 wells and a network of subsea pipelines. The work is being carried out as the Area 4 partners advance toward a Final Investment Decision (FID), targeted for 2026.
The consortium, formed by Saipem and Jan de Nul, holds global experience in the provision of engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) services for subsea production equipment and associated structures, as well as umbilicals and flowlines in deepwater project environments.
Johanna Boothey, Chairperson and Managing Director of ExxonMobil Mozambique, said the selection would position the project for its next phase. "We are pleased to announce the selection of the upstream EPCI contractor. These selections ensure we are ready to begin construction following the Final Investment Decision and deliver the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo on schedule."
In parallel, the Area 4 partners have awarded logistics base services contracts to two Mozambican-owned companies. The contracts are designed to support Area 4's drilling campaign and associated offshore operations from Pemba, the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado.
CFML Logistic, S.A. was selected to provide services relating to the land and infrastructure at the logistics base of the Pemba Bulk Terminal. Alistair Group Mozambique, Lda. will provide services related to logistics operations, reinforcing the participation of Mozambican companies in the project.
Boothey highlighted the significance of the awards for local content. "The awards to these two Mozambican-owned companies demonstrate our strong commitment to local content. These contracts will help develop local capabilities and create lasting value for Mozambique."
According to Boothey, the contracts are also expected to support long-term port infrastructure with the potential to benefit industries beyond the oil and gas sector. The awards form part of the broader advancement of Area 4 operations and the preparation of the Rovuma LNG Project for its upcoming phases.
