M. Hervé LADOGuinea Country Manager, Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI)

Hervé Lado is an economist with a focus on political economy. He currently serves as the Guinea Country Manager for Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI), a New York-based non-profit policy institute and grant-making organization that works with governments and civil societies to promote a responsible management of oil, gas and mineral resources for the benefit of all.

Prior to NRGI, Hervé has contributed to the program Companies and Development at ESSEC Business School (France), conducting field research in the Niger Delta (Nigeria) to assess the oil companies’ contribution to sustainable development. In 2014, he joined a large hydropower plant project in Cameroon to provide technical assistance on social impacts, his team being in charge of drafting the project’s stakeholder engagement plan and supervising expropriations and compensations. In the past, Hervé also served for many years in the Embassy of France in Yaoundé (Cameroon) as economic and trade advisor within the French economic diplomacy network in Africa.

Hervé is an experienced researcher and professor in CSR, economics, and business ethics, and has authored publications on development and the role of corporations in Africa, including a book on economic and political dynamics in the history of Nigeria. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, with a dissertation on the CSR of oil multinationals in Nigeria; a master in finance and strategy from Sciences Po Paris; and a master’s in economics and management from the Catholic University of Central Africa (Yaoundé).
