Schneider Electric Highlights Mozambique Among Africa’s LNG Leaders
In an analysis published this week, the company stated that the period between 2026 and 2028 is expected to mark a new phase of strong expansion for the global LNG industry, driven by rising energy demand in Europe and Asia, as well as the need to strengthen global energy security.
According to Schneider Electric, Africa is set to play an increasingly strategic role in this market, with Mozambique, Nigeria and Angola positioned among the countries leading the sector’s growth on the continent.
“Countries such as Nigeria, Mozambique and Angola are at the forefront of this growth,” the analysis states, authored by Christophe Begat.
The company argues that LNG expansion currently represents not only an engineering and construction challenge, but also an operational coordination challenge, advocating for greater investment in digital transformation to ensure efficiency, safety and cost reduction.
According to Schneider Electric, industry operators face a “trilemma” involving the simultaneous need to guarantee stable energy supply, reduce emissions and control operational costs.
In this context, the multinational advocates the creation of a “digital backbone” capable of integrating operational data, industrial systems and intelligent analytics tools to improve decision-making and optimize operations.
Mozambique holds some of Africa’s largest natural gas reserves, mainly located in the Rovuma Basin in Cabo Delgado province, where major international investments linked to LNG production and exports are underway.
The country is considered one of the world’s future major exporters of liquefied natural gas, at a time when international markets are seeking more diversified and secure energy sources.
