EDP Announces €1M For Renewable Energy Projects In Africa, Including Mozambique
The Portuguese company EDP Renováveis announced on Monday 25 November that it has made a total of 1 million euros (65.8 million meticals) available to finance a total of nine renewable energy projects in four African countries, including Mozambique, under the 6th edition of the ‘2AE Fund (Access to Energy)’ programme.
According to a press release, the money will essentially go towards initiatives related to health and education, with the potential to have a positive impact on the lives of more than 5 million people.
‘In addition to Mozambique, health units and schools in Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria and Rwanda will benefit, totalling more than 150 health units that provide primary care to the population and around 20 schools. The nine projects, using renewable energy, will promote social, environmental and economic development in rural communities in these countries,’ explained the organisation.
EDP also pointed out that the projects selected have in common the use of decentralised solar production technologies, with three of them focused on improving healthcare, four on educational institutions, one on community development and the other on water supply.
Since it was launched in 2018, the 2AE Fund has financed a total of 38 projects in Angola and Mozambique and also in Malawi, Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania, with support totalling 3.5 million euros, helping to improve the lives of more than 230,000 people directly and around 2.5 million indirectly.
